Why VCU?

By now it has become clear that VCU is interested in being part of the effort to bring higher education to the Shore. There are various reasons for this interest and for the synergy between VCU and Shore U.

VCU has a rich history in supporting underserved demographic groups in attaining higher education. VCU student demographics mirror those of ESCC students and potential students. VCU has a large urban complex but little presence in rural areas. VCU has a major medical complex and strong medical school courses. Nursing is a major academic program at ESCC. By partnering with VCU, nursing students could gain additional certifications and full baccalaureate degrees.

VCU’s Transfer Agreement with other Virginia institutions mean that ESCC students can transfer right now to VCU and have their academic work at ESCC recognized as part of VCU’s degree requirements. Additionally, VCU internships are available to prospective students - on and off the Shore.

A partnership is advantageous to both institutions.

As VCU’s student newspaper emphasized, “VCU is always moving, always charging ahead.”

Could SHORE U. be its next grand endeavor?

A better partner for Shore U could not have been found!
